Pattern: I designed the pattern myself based on some other similar patterns I had tried in the past.

Materials: Most things I found in my house: the gold, pink, and lining fabrics were scraps I had, the ribbon was from the packaging on a birthday gift, and the breast cups were from an old swim suit. The only things I bought were the green fabric for the bottom of the dress, the cord for the straps, and the zipper.

Why build it

I started sewing because I could imagine designs that would cost more than I could afford. Instead of spending hundreds of dollars on a prom dresses, I created them.

how

Pattern: I combined a couple of patterns to create the final one that I used for the dress.

Materials: The dress has an outer chiffon layer that's translucent and an opaque lining. I couldn't find a fabric as nice as the one in the movie but the layering achieved a similar effect.

Sewing process: I didn't want to mess up on my final fabric, so I made the entire dress out of muslin (a cheap white material) first.

why build it

I saw the movie Atonement and fell in love with this green dress. I decided to make a replica.
