“Gender, Power, & Tech” Zine
Created by Kelly B. Wagman (zine author and researcher), Nicole Wagman (zine author and illustrator), Page Ellerson (animated film producer)
“Gender, Power, & Tech” is a zine that discusses gender-related issues in the tech industry. It draws on the latest research on the interrelations between technology and society, as well as Kelly’s research on tech culture and personal experiences in the tech industry. The intended audience is people already somewhat familiar with computer science departments and the tech industry who want to better understand their own experiences, the challenges of increasing diversity in STEM, and the impact a lack of diversity can have on products and the people who use them. The zine argues that diversity is not a pipeline problem: it is a cultural problem that we must take seriously if we want to build more equitable and inclusive socio-technical systems.
You can download the full zine PDF here: Google Drive link. It is designed to be printed double sided.
We are able to print zines using a professional comic book printing company. If you are interested in physical copies, please reach out to Kelly.
If you are going to use the zine in a class, training, or other venue we’d love to hear about it!
